Elizabeth Peyton is one of the most well-known modern painters, currently gathering fame for her portraits which feature the, well, famous. Though she has branched out in subject matter to include politicians and city scenes, Peyton is famous for her portraits of rock gods like Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and wild man Pete Doherty. Peyton’s portraits capture intimacy and a delicate tenderness from the cultural icons she depicts with her soft brushstrokes and vibrant colors. This is Peyton’s first survey show. -ABP
