“Eleven Heavy Things” brings a little bit of Venice to New York, as the installation debuted at the 53rd Venice Biennale. The “heavy things” are fiberglass objects one can stand on top of, under and stick various limbs through, whether you’re small child playing or an adult excited to engage with a piece of contemporary art. Many of the pieces have words or sentences scrawled on them and in typical Miranda July fashion, the messages are poignant, funny and oddly tender. “We don’t know each other, we’re just hugging for the picture,” one pedestal reads, “When we’re done I’ll walk away quickly. It’s almost over.” -ABP
